On May 7, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu met with Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Pierre Krähenbühl and Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Jagan Chapagain during their visit to China.

China is ready to strengthen cooperation with the two organizations and make new contributions to the international humanitarian cause.

Noting that China has made important contributions to advancing the international humanitarian cause, Director-General Pierre Krähenbühl and Secretary General Jagan Chapagain said they expect China to continue playing its role in promoting the easing of humanitarian crises in conflict areas. They appreciated the "three major global initiatives" proposed by China and expressed readiness to deepen relevant cooperation with China.
