Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun Holds a Briefing for Chinese and Foreign Media

On November 8, 2019, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun held a briefing for Chinese and foreign media at the International Press Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Zhai Jun briefed on his visit to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Iran in mid-to-late October, and the Chinese side's propositions on the situation in the Middle East and regional hotspot issues, stressing that as many issues in the Middle East are complex, we need to address them through consultation and coordination. We must uphold the basic norms governing international relations, adhere to dialogue and consultation, and find a solution that is in line with the realities in the Middle East and accommodates the interests of various parties. We should give equal emphasis to development and security, and consolidate the foundation of security and stability in the region through development. We need to maintain the momentum of counter-terrorism and create a sound security environment for the region.

Zhai Jun said, for a long period of time, China has always upheld fairness and justice. The Chinese side is willing to, together with countries in the Middle East, contribute to peace in the Middle East, promote stability in the Middle East and participate in the development in the Middle East. The Chinese side is willing to actively support all diplomatic efforts that help promote the relaxation in the regional situation.

Zhai Jun also answered questions from the journalists including the situation in the Gulf region, the Palestinian issue, the situation in Syria, the Iranian issue and the fight against the I.S.
